Who is Allan Zirbel?
Allow me to introduce myself. I was born in 1967 in the quaint town of Goondiwindi. My journey began in 1983 when I embarked on an apprenticeship at the Goondiwindi Argus, the esteemed local newspaper, which I successfully completed in 1986.
Seeking new challenges, I joined the Australian Army's Corps of Signals in 1987. During my time in the army, I had the privilege of serving as part of the ODF in Townsville and later in the crypto vaults at the School of Signals.
In 1991, I decided to transition into a different field and joined the Queensland Ambulance in Goondiwindi. Over the next few years, I served in various locations, including Emerald and the Ipswich region, gaining invaluable experience along the way.
The year 1995 marked a significant turning point in my career. I transitioned into the security industry, starting as a mobile patrol officer in the Lowood / Plainland area. Shortly after, I joined Armaguard in Toowoomba, where I thrived in a leadership role, overseeing crews and assuming responsibilities such as ATM repairs and occupational health and safety.

During my tenure at Armaguard, I pursued a personal interest and joined the Australian Army Cadets as a training officer in Gatton. For almost two decades, from 2000 to 2019, I dedicated myself to shaping the next generation of young cadets.
In 2002, I decided to embark on a new professional path and enrolled in the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) to fulfill my dream of becoming a school teacher. Graduating in 2006, I initially took on short-term teaching contracts before securing a full-time position as a manual arts teacher at Lowood State High School.
After battling severe depression and a heart condition, I made the difficult decision to leave the teaching profession at the end of 2015. However, with time and self-care, I returned to a less stressful line of work, reentering the security field. I worked as a security officer at Centerlink for nearly two years before joining MSS, where I played a crucial role in inducting guards for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. As a supervisor, I oversaw operations at both the games village and the media center.
My journey eventually led me to Icon Protection, where I worked as a trainer. This experience proved transformative as I eventually became the owner of the business. In my current venture, I have partnered with HSE (Health Security Education) to meet the growing demand for personalized training courses.
Today, I take great pride in customizing courses and providing one-on-one training, ensuring individuals receive the highest quality education in the fields of health and security.
