I have been involved in the training and education industry since 1992 and worked in various security roles from 1995. Having taken over ICON in December 2021, in partnership with Health Security Education as my RTO, I have created a suite of courses for individuals in locations all over Queensland.

Does Security Suit You?
The certificate 2 in Security Operations is the entry level course to the Security Industry. It can lead to such roles as Crowd Controller, Venue Security, Shopping Centre Guard, Mobile Patrol Guard, Airport Security and many other roles.
REQUIREMENTS: Good communication skills, Self Discipline, Be a person of 'Good Standing" (No criminal history within the last 10 years)
The security industry is evolving. Prior to 1993 we were never trained or licenced.
After 1993, you needed to be licenced. I attended a two week class in Brisbane where we covered leglisation, handholds, battons, pistols and shotguns.
Then in 2006 the Security Providers Amendment Bill was released. This divided the industry into Crowd Controllers and Security Guards along with many other regulations.
Today it is widly accepted that the Crowd Controllers role of a reactive 'Bouncer' has evolved into that of a proactive 'Mediator'.
Today we see more females entering the security field, this is mainly due to the fact that our role has a much greater focus on communication as opposed to indimidation.
